My Life Experience Sharing: Tiffany Hwang

I am a Taiwanese and was born in southern Taiwan. on September 13, 1967 at a time when most Taiwanese were poor.  When my father was young, he didn't have any shoes to go to school. No one in my family was Christian.

My mom was busy helping my dad make money, so I was raised by my grandmother in the countryside until I was four. My grandmother took me to the farm and I have great memories living in Chung Hwa. I did things like ride in ox carts, feed chickens, as well as grow corn and papayas.

My grandmother was very gentle. She liked to ask me, "Do you think I will live to have a piece of your wedding cake?" I was little, but I hoped that my grandmother would live long enough to see me get married.

My family moved to Taipei when I was about five. My father was a tailor. I have two younger brothers, Ethen and Sean. My dad sent me to Christian kindergarten called "Eternal Life".  When I asked him why, nobody had an answer.

One day in kindergarten, a boy sitting behind me pulled my ponytail. I told the teacher. The teacher told me to come to the front of the class and scolded me, demanding, "Why do you have long hair?" I think the teacher was weird and unhappy. I wanted to own a school when I grew up and hire decent teachers.

I did not finish kindergarten, because my grandfather had stomach cancer. It deeply affected all of my family. They all believed in traditional religions and worshipped ancestors. Grandpa could not eat anything, because nobody dared take the responsibility to feed him. Everyone was suffering. My mom often told us a story??. At critical a moment, Grandpa was transferred to Taipei Veteran General Hospital. My grandfather begged the doctor, "Give me the best medicine you have. I will go home and sell all my farmland…" But he still died of stomach cancer and small intestinal cancer six months later. Although he was such a successful farmer and owned a great deal of land, money couldn't buy him more life. not even one more minute!

After I moved to Taipei, I went to Kuting Elementary school located by NTU and GBC. I was elected Taipei Modeling student two times. All my teachers helped build my character and encouraged me a lot. I received many prizes startingin the the second grade. The first prize I got was second place in the school’s Winter Homework Art Contest. I recall the work was a vessel made out of a 45-centimeter long piece of paper. It was actually made by my dad. I wondered why the judges gave me the honor. How could a second grade student make such a delicate piece of work? I had my doubts. People are easily deceived.

From grades 3 to 6, I stayed in Mandarin Daily News Library throughout the summer and winter vacations. I served to cultivate in me a reading habit. The most impressive books I read were The Count of Monte Cristo and Les Miserables. They gave me a glimpse into Christian ideas, including love, salvation, and freedom.
I made up my mind to go to university at that time, because wanted to be able to think independently.

I reached some of my goals. I went to the Chinese Culture University and finished my bachelor’s degree. My grandmother attended my wedding banquet and had a piece of my wedding cake. I married Tim Tsang and we lived in the Yamgming Mountain Villa. I worked as a director at the Hess Educational Organization more than 10 years.
I lived for four years with my mother-in-law, during which time many extraordinary things happened. I asked Tim if we could move out and live on our own, but he refused and replied, "There is no way to bring it up". One day, I thought our marriage was so boring that I decided to have a baby. One month later, I was pregnant. I thought having a baby would make life complete. I became a mother and named my beloved new born baby Angel.

When my daughter was four, I had the opportunity to open a whole language kindergarten. I raised six million dollars to open a Happy Marian franchise in Shilin. The franchising contract was for seven years. Being a shareholder and administrative director, I had to deal with a lot of people and things, including  the government, our landlords, taxes, and accounting. My dream to have a kindergarten was fulfilled, but it turned out to be a nightmare. I was not happy at all. Although I lived in splendid house in Mangrove, I had to pay large amounts lots of tuition and money.  I had many responsibilities and tremendous burdens. I did not have much freedom.

We hired lots of decent foreign teachers, but three of them were outstanding. One of them, Andrew, had once worked for NASA. He gave me my first Bible and helped me solve the most important issues I faced, i.e., giving all our teachers ARCs and getting the school a license. The 2nd one was Gina. She had graduated from Berkeley and had won a national drama and speech contest for her school. She was so special that she even read a children Bible to the kids. So many kids loved her, including my daughter. One day, Gina asked to resign. I asked her, "Where are you going? "She answered, "God wants me to work in Mainland China!" So I realized that God sent her to me in our kindergarten. Whenever I had questions about people's performance, she replied with three words, "People are sinners". She explained the Holy Trinity to me. The 3rd teacher was Torah, a Jew.  He gave me motivation to try to understand, "What is God's Chosen Sons" Two of them shared the good news with me. But I still doubted for five years. I asked myself, "Is there a God? There better be!" Now I know there is, because He hives in me.

In 2009, because of my little Angel, I walked into the Mangrove Church. I got baptized a month later without notifying my friends or family. The decision changed many lives. I seek no soul death. I believe that Jesus is my personal savior, that he washed away all my sins, that He is the way, the truth and the life, and that
nobody comes to the Father, except through him.

On September 13, 2009, I gave all my burdens to God. He made the decision and took all the consequences. I've been witnessing since 2009 and he has taken me to the next stage.

Once I really know there is a God that He has a plan for everyone, I let go and let God. Since I got baptized, I have let God take charge. He is a faithful living God and has answered three important prayers of mine. I got down on my knees to pray and the experience was heavenly. Now, I know why I went to  Eternal Life Kindergarten and much more: to receive eternal life. Ha Ha! As you can see, I am so much happier now.

"I have hidden your words in my heart, so that I might not sin against you."

John 3:16

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in  him shall not perish but have eternal life."
